Ed began his career in advertising in 1975 and founded his advertising agency 11 years later.D-W/McGarrity offers full service marketing, advertising, public relations and new media consultation and implementation.
Ed has advised to a wide variety of private sector clientele including: Swift Eckrich Meats (US), Up With People (International), AlphaGraphics Printshops of the Future (US), Americans for the Separation of Church & State (Washington D.C.), MetWest Laboratories (US), Blue Coral Wax Systems (US), McCain Citrus (Midwest), Ventana Medical Systems (International).
Over the years, Ed has received 116 marketing and advertising excellence awards from regional and national peer and client industries. In 2007, Ed redirected the agency’s mission toward becoming a social entrepreneurial firm and bringing its decades of commercial advertising and PR experience to nonprofits, municipal, state & federal grantees, coalitions, commissions, community groups, organizations, behavioral health care providers and private sector clients working to improve quality of life.
Ed has served as a media advisor to nonprofit grantees funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (USHHS), Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), The Office of Minority Health (OMH), the Arizona Governor’s Office for Children Youth and Families and the Arizona Parents Commission Grant.
Because of several of these grants, Ed has had the opportunity to help empower youth to lend their voices to the prevention of underage drinking and other substance abuse through the development of unique communication tools such as the youth-managed prevention site, www.BeFreePima.com.
Ed was trained and certified by the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona through its Prevention Institute. In addition to his capabilities as a media advisor, he has assisted community coalition clients build capacity, developed and managed youth groups, advocated to government departments on behalf of coalitions and social service organizations, and promoted cultural competency across multiple, diverse and vulnerable populations.
